Thank you to those who submitted a diverse and exciting range of abstracts and the symposia convenors and technical committee who have help craft the final programme. We have done our very best but deeply regret that we can never please everyone. Some presentation preferences could not be accommodated in the very full schedule (so please check both oral and poster schedules) and some in the audience may be torn between the great content in parallel sessions. Two dedicated poster sessions will be held on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd from 3.50-5.30 pm giving these presentations a high profile. Within the programme * denotes student presentations. - Due to unfortunate events in Canterbury the abstract submission and Early Bird registration deadlines have been extended until the 26th of September 2010. However, to help with the organisation of the scientific programme we would appreciate an earlier submission if possible.
- A special symposium on the 2010 Canterbury Earthquake will also be convened with a later abstract submission deadline of the 18th of October. See the Scientific Programme for more details.
- GeoNZ 2010 will feature a Careers Forum. More details soon.
- You may be able to submit two abstracts to GeoNZ 2010! See the Abstract Submission page for more details
In November this year, the New Zealand Geothermal Workshop and the Geoscience Society of New Zealand are holding a joint conference in Auckland showcasing the latest and best in New Zealand geoscience research, geothermal science, and geothermal engineering. The meeting will include an overlap day with the annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, AusIMM.
The theme for the meeting is "Research · Economy · Frontiers" and we particularly encourage abstract submissions that explore the interplay of pure and applied research and showcase the application of fundamental research in the commercial marketplace.
The meeting will be held in the award winning Owen G. Glenn Building of the University of Auckland Business School. The conference begins with an icebreaker on the evening of Sunday 21st November and concludes on the evening of Wednesday 24th November 2010 with a joint GeoNZ–AusIMM reception. The conference dinner is included in the registration fee for most registrants; others can opt to attend upon ticket purchase. This event of fine dining and conversation will be held in the Auckland Room at SkyCity, Auckland on Tuesday 23rd November. Annual General Meetings of both the Geoscience Society of New Zealand and the New Zealand Geothermal Association will be scheduled separately during the first two days of the conference. Participants are encouraged also to attend pre- and post-conference fieldtrips.
Onsite conference registration will open at 4.30 pm on Sunday 21st November with the icebreaker commencing at 5.30 pm in the main L1 foyer of the Owen G. Glenn Building. Registration opens again at 7:30 am on the morning of Monday 22nd November in the Owen G. Glenn building L1 foyer, with a formal welcome and opening ceremony beginning at 8:30 am. An information desk will be staffed during coffee and lunch breaks throughout the conference.
For more information on the 2010 AusIMM NZ Branch Conference that follows GeoNZ 2010 go to www.ausimm.co.nz. AusIMM members are entitled to ‘member’ rates at GeoNZ 2010 and this year GSNZ and NZGA members can also register for the AusIMM conference at 'member' rates. Fieldtrips and optional social activities for both GeoNZ 2010 and AusIMM conferences are open to all delegates of both but need to be booked through the appropriate website.
